MARCH-APRIL 2003 RIDE SCHEDULERoad Captain Laurel Klein (info@hcba.us).Difficulty ratings: (*) easy; ( * * ) moderate; (* * *) difficult; (* * * *) extreme. These ratings are somewhat subjective. Ride leaders' initials follow the name of the ride. Saturday March 1 at 11:00 Clarksburg to Lost Creek Laurel 22 miles(*) From Riverbend Park, Clarksburg,. Gently rolling out and back. Easy pace. Lunch at the new Mexican restaurant in Clarksburg after the ride. Sunday March 2 at 2:00 Marshville Bill 12 to 20 miles (*)From Marshville exit Rt 50 West. Pleasant ride, with a couple of options, depending on the weather and how energetic we are. Easy pace. See the restored covered bridge. Saturday March 8 at 10:00 Mon River Rail trail KW 10 to 20 miles (*)From lock and dam parking lot near Waterfront Jeep from I 68 and take the University Ave. exit, go toward Morgantown about 3 miles to parking lot. Flat rail trail, some paved, some smooth, hard packed surface along the river. Dress warmly. Sunday March 9 at 1:30 Turtletree Fork/Halls Run LK 15 to 18 miles (**) from Marshville exit Rt 5O West. Route goes out Jarvisville Rd to Turtletree Fork , over Patterson Fork and returns via Halls Run. A little rough pavement on Turtletree Fork, but some scenery you may not have seen before. Saturday March 15 Mt. Morris-Waynesburg JB 40 miles (***) 11:00 from church parking lot in downtown Mt Morris. Take I79 north of Morgantown to the first exit in PA. Turn left off exit and go to the intersection with Rt 19. The church will be on your left. Hilly ride through pretty countryside. Lunch at the food depot. Sunday March 16 at 1:30 Time Trial 2:30 Casual Ride BF Jane Lew (exit 105 I79) Park along dead end road in front of truck stop. Ten mile time trial is out and back Jesse Run Rd. (*½) 15 to 20 mile casual ride to follow after time trial about 2:30. Saturday March 22 at 11:00 Brushy Fork JW Up to 30 miles (**) From Deegan Lake parking lot. Heading east into Bridgeport on Rt 50, turn right at the light past Hardees. When this road (Rt 58) bears right, continue straight on the lake road to the picnic shelter and tennis courts. Easy out and back ride with just a couple of hills each way. Sunday March 23 at 1:30 Corbin Branch Loop GE 20 to 30 miles(***) From Benedum Airport, Bridgeport. Pretty scenery, but a lot of steep little hills. Good views of the countryside from the ridges. Saturday March 29 at 12:00 noon Big Flint/Rt 23/Tarkiln Loop WH 25 miles (**) From Tarkiln exit of RT 50 west of Salem. A couple of pretty good hills, some long valleys through some of our favorite countryside. Sunday March 30 at 10:00 Meyersdale Maple Festival JB 50 miles (**½) Meet at Sister's restaurant in Confluence, PA at 10am (earlier if you want breakfast) Caravan by car to Fort Hill trailhead. This is a very pretty rail trail with a smooth surface that can be soft this time of year. Fat tires or hybrid bikes will sink in less. Pancakes for lunch at the festival in Meyersdale. A shorter option is possible. Check with Jack for details. Saturday April 5 at 10:00 Deckers Creek /Mon River Rail Trail Paula (E mail Paula) & Tim 20 to 30 miles (* to **) from behind Sabraton Plaza (at the CVS end along the Rail Trail). From I-68 take exit 4 (Rt 7/Sabraton exit.) Turn right (north) off of the exit onto Route 7. Go just less than 1½ miles from the exit. The plaza is on your left. It has a CVS drug store on one end and an Auto Zone store on the other. Park behind the stores. (If you get to Route 857/Hartman Run Road, you have passed the plaza.) Road bikes or mountain bikes are okay. If the southern end of the Mon River portion is finished, we will check that out. Otherwise we will go up the Deckers Creek portion to Masontown and back. Lunch at Rio Grande afterward (Paula will call first to make sure they are open this time). Please call or e mail Paula if you need better directions to the starting point. Sunday April 6 at 1:30 Jarvisville Loop GW 23 miles (**) From Marshville exit of Rt 50 West. One of our favorite rides. A stop for snacks at the country store in Miletus before tackling the hill on Patterson Fork. Return through Salem. Saturday April 12 at 12:00 noon Oral Lake GE 30 miles(**) From Bridgeport Hardees Out and back with one big hill pretty countryside. A nifty ride. Sunday April 13 at 1:30 Brushy Fork (new route) KP 32 miles (**) from Anmore Post Office. From I79 take exit 117 go west on 58 to T then left for 100 feet to post office This will add one hill to the otherwise familiar out and back route through pretty spring countryside. Saturday April 19 at 1:00 Mt Morris Loop DC 25 miles (**) From church parking lot in downtown Mt Morris. Take I79 north of Morgantown to the first exit in PA. Turn left off exit and go to the intersection with Rt 19. The church will be on your left. Hilly ride through Pennsylvania countryside. Sunday April 20 (Easter) at 2:00 Jarvisville/Greenbrier/Long Run LK 30 miles (**) From Marshville exit of Rt 50 West. Lots of good riding with very little climbing. A stop for snacks if the country store with the big shade tree in Miletus is open. Return through Salem. Saturday April 26 at 10:00 Ten Mile Time Trial and Casual Ride BF Jane Lew (exit 105 I79) Park along dead end road in front of truck stop. Time trial is out and back Jesse Run Rd. See if you can improve your time. (*1/2) 15 to 20 mile casual ride to follow after time trial about 11 am. Sunday April 27 at 1:00 Riverbend to Jane Lew PM 30 to 50 miles (**) From Riverbend Park, Clarksburg. Relatively flat ride through Lost Creek to Jane Lew. A loop over to Jacksons Mill or even down toward Weston is possible. Several places along the route where we could stop for snacks or a cold drink. |
