March - April 2004       RIDE SCHEDULE

Difficulty ratings: ( * ) easy ( * * ) moderate ( * * * ) difficult ( * * * * ) extreme. These are entirely subjective. These rides are intended to be enjoyed rather than just survived. If there is snow on the ground or pouring down rain, they will likely be cancelled. If in doubt, contact the ride leader.

Saturday March 6, 1:00, Deckers Creek, Marilyn N.
32 miles ( * ½) Park behind the Sabraton Wendy’s) Trail surface is mostly good for road bikes but there may be some rough spots, It climbs steadily uphill to Masontown or turn around sooner if you wish. The return ride is all downhill

Sunday March 7, 1:30 Lost Creek/Wattersmith, Paul M.
33 miles ( * * ) from Riverbend Park, Clarksburg. Gently rolling. One hill near Watters Smith State Park. Snacks available in Lost Creek. Ride can be shortened if the weather is bad

Saturday March 13, 1:00, Shinnston to Monongah, Terry Jo M.
( * ) Up to 20 miles From the new trailhead on Rt 19 in Shinnston across from the Rite Aid (near Dairy Queen) Out and back ride on flat trail with very good surface. Nice rest spot at the park in Worthington. The trail goes along the West Fork River towards Fairmont. Ride to Monongah and back or turn around whenever you wish. A good time to bring some new riders along.

( * * )19 miles from truck stop at Mt Morris exit of I-79 a hilly loop (if there is any question about the weather, call Don between 11:30 and 12:30) Nice scenery

Saturday March 20, 11:00, Kingwood Pike-Snake Hill Loop, Jack B.
( * * * ) 30 mile from Sabraton Wendy’s Ride leaves Morgantown and climbs toward Masontown via Snake Hill Rd and returns on the Kingwood Pike with an option to return on the rail trail . Convenience store at Masontown

Sunday March 21, 2:00, Time trial 3:00, Casual Ride, Bill F.
Jane Lew (exit 105 I-79) Park along dead end road in front of truck stop. Ten mile time trial is out and back Jesse Run Rd. ( * ½) 15 to 20 mile casual ride to follow after time trial about 3:00

Sunday March 28, 1:30, Buffalo Lake-Sycamore Loop, Laurel K.
( * * ) 20 miles from Marshville exit, Rt 50 W The road from Jarvisville to Buffalo Lake is a little rough, but now paved. A short stretch on Rt 19 brings us to a convenience store. Return via Sycamore, where those who wish to ride out the ridge and back on fairly new pavement can take in the view.

Saturday April 3, 1:00, Oral Lake from Deegan Lake, Greg E.
28 miles( * * ) From Deegan Lake picnic shelter/tennis courts Out and back with just a couple of hills. Pretty countryside. A nifty ride Pizza Party at Paul’s after the ride Pizza at 5:00 (upstairs from Holy Moses bike shop, West Pike St , Clarksburg 622-7235)

Sunday April 4, 1:00, Big Flint/Rt 23 Loop, Paul M.
35miles ( * * ) From Salem Teikyo parking lot on Main St Salem (across from BP station) Beautiful rural countryside. One big hill, long valleys, a stop for snacks possible

Saturday April 10, 10:30, Jarvisville - Long Run Loop, Walter H.
30 miles ( * * ) From Marshville exit of Rt 50 West. Lots of good riding with very little climbing. A stop for snacks at the country store with the big shade tree in Miletus or the Dairy Queen in Salem

Sunday April 11, Easter, 1:30, Anmore/Brushy Fork, Ken P.
32 miles ( * * ) from Anmore Post Office. From I79 take exit 117 go west on 58 to T then left for 100, feet to post office. Out and back route through pretty countryside with interesting wetlands at the far end

Saturday April 17, 10:00, Parsons to Thomas Rail Trails, Laurel K.
( * * )30 miles from Parsons trail head (from downtown Parsons take Rt 219 east, cross bridge at the edge of town and the trail head is on the right) Newly surfaced smooth trail from Parsons to Hendricks, but trail is still rough as it climbs on up to Thomas, so 1½ inch or larger tires are still needed . Great scenery. Lunch at Purple Fiddle in Thomas. The return is pretty much downhill

Saturday April 24, 10:00, Fairmont to Shinnston Rail Trail, Kelly W.
( * ½) 30 miles From Mary Lou Retton Park Park near statue. Nice downhill to the trail Flat rail trail with good surface for mountain bikes and hybrids. The trail goes along the West Fork River with a nice little park half way along and a Dairy Queen at the Shinnston end.

Sunday April 25, 11:00, Plum Run, Jenny H.
( * * ) 20 to 25 miles Park by Barrackville covered bridge (from downtown Fairmont, take 250 North, turn right at sign for Barrackville, continue 1 or 2 miles to covered bridge) A hilly ride to the little community of Plum Run. Shorter route than previous years, but much improved.
