Saturday August 31 @ 11:00 Big Flint Loop ; ; ; JW 35miles (* *) From Salem Teikyo parking lot on Main St Salem (across from BP station) Beautiful rural countryside. One big hill, long valleys, a stop for snacks possible Monday September 2 @ 9:00 Stonewall Jackson Jubilee ; ; ; LK 46 miles (* *) From Marshville exit of Rt 50West. Low traffic route through pretty countryside with one big hill each way. Visit annual arts & crafts festival at Jacksons Mill. There's food, music, history, etc. Admission charge (Seniors ask for discount) Bring bike lock Friday September 6 Michigan Upper Peninsula Tour ; ; ; BF Depart by car Friday. Arrive at Mackinaw and tour the Island on Saturday. Loop ride of the Upper Peninsula Sunday 9/8 to Saturday 9/14. Start home Saturday. Arrive home Sunday 9/15 See itinerary for details of tour, daily mileages and motel reservation information. Restaurant meals. Carry your own gear Camping is possible, but most people have made motel reservations. The scenery is expected to be outstanding. Limited SAG. Saturday September 7 @ 9:30 North Bend RT ; ; ; GW 27 miles (* ½) From Salem College parking lot on Main St in Salem (across from the BP) Hop on the Rail-Trail behind the Dairy Queen and ride the recently improved section to West Union and back. One tunnel each way. A nicely restored depot at Smithburg. Mt bikes or hybrids. Sunday September 8 @ 10:00 Snowbird Loop ; ; ; GMcW 42 miles (* *) From Marshville exit of Rt 50 west Route includes Jarvisville, Meathouse Fork, Rt 18 and several miles on the shoulder of Rt 50. Few hills of any significance for the many miles of good riding. A store stop is possible Saturday September 14 @ 9:00 Taylortown Loop ; ; ; SS 50 miles From Courthouse in Morgantown on High St. Ride leaves Morgantown on Rt. 100 along the Mon river, goes to Maidsville, and Taylortown, PA then winds by Davistown, through the State Game Lands near Kirby, returns via Shannon's Run to Mt. Morris PA, and Rt. 100 back into Morgantown. Some hills. Sunday September 15 @ 10:00 Plum Run ; ; ; MK 30 miles (* * *) From Fairmont College Stadium parking lot. Lots of hills, at least one fairly tough climb. Varied scenery, a covered bridge. A stop for sandwiches or snacks is possible Saturday September 21 @ 11:00 Roads & Rail-Trail ; ; ; JW 30 miles Fat tires. From Salem College Parking lot on Main St Salem Ride goes out Patterson Fork, loops around to Long Run and returns on the North Bend Rail-Trail Sunday September 22 @ 8:00 Fly by Bike Century ; ; ; PM 100 miles (* * * *) From Salem College parking lot on Main St in Salem across from the BP station. Out and back ride to Fly, Ohio via Middlebourne and Sistersville. Mostly rolling or flat with no serious hills on very pleasant roads. Take the ferry across the river to the restaurant at Fly for 50 cents each way or eat at the historic Wells Inn on the WV side. A shorter section of this route also makes a nice ride, but anyone who has ridden 50 or 60 miles in a day a few times can probably do the whole 100 miles. Some country stores along the way and a stop for snacks provided by the club. Limited SAG. If totally rained out, the ride will be held Sunday September 29. Saturday September 28 @ 9:00 Wattersmith Loop ; ; ; KP 33 miles (* *) from Riverbend Park, Clarksburg. Gently rolling, one hill near Watters Smith State Park, some rough road has been repaved. Snacks available in Lost Creek, Sunday September 29 @ 10:00 Tour de Wheeling/Ohio County, Mike B This is also the rain date for the century. See Sept 22 22 miles (* * *) Meet in the Krogers parking lot off Exit 2a of I-70- (Oglebay Park/ Rt 88 exit) Combination of road and paved rail-trail. Makes a loop via Rt 88 through Oglebay Park (www.oglebay-resort.com ), then Short Creek and Cherry Hill Roads to Warwood and lunch. Pick up Rail-Trail to downtown Wheeling (www.wheelingcvb.com). Return via Rt 40 /National Highway and the famous Wheeling Hill and McCullough's Leap. Hilly ride but there is a lot to see. Let Mike know if you are going; it's a 1 ½ hour drive from Morgantown. Two choices for October 5: ; ; ; ;Saturday October 5 @ 10:00 Allegheny Highlands Rail-Trail ; ; ; ;Laurel (ride leader change) 44 miles (* *) From trail head on Rt 219 just north of old Rt 33 in Elkins. Our newest Rail-Trail has 4 miles of asphalt at each end, good surface in between, OK for road bikes. Gradual climb over the hill each way. Wonderful scenery. A choice of restaurants for lunch in Parsons. Well worth the drive to Elkins ; ; ; ;Saturday October 5 @ 9:00 Hodgesville Loop ; ; ; KP 37 miles (* * *) From Lost Creek between bank and community center. A couple of hills and one real monster, but nice downhills too. Includes Jane Lew, Berlin, a lightly traveled section of Rt 20 A store stop possible. Sunday October 6 @ 1:30 Jarvisville/Greenbrier/Long Run ; ; ; GW 30 miles (* *) From Marshville exit of Rt 50 West. Lots of good riding with very little climbing. A stop for snacks at the country store with the big shade tree in Miletus. Return through Salem REVISED!!! Saturday October 12 & 13 ; C&O Towpath Tour Williamsport, MD to as far as you want ; ; ;Paula We will be staying at the Red Roof Inn in Williamsport (301-582-3500) Friday Oct 11 and Saturday October 12. If you care, meet at the motel Friday night and have dinner nearby. On Saturday, ride in one direction as far as you want and turn around. Then on Sunday, do the same in the other direction. No panniers needed. Ride as much or as little as you want. Ride one day or both days. Saturday October 19 @ 10:30 Morgantown Rail-Trails ; ; ; JC (*) 10 to 25 miles From DC and JC's house (a prominent Morgantown landmark). Leisurely pace. Paved Rail-Trail through Morgantown; a big hill climb at the end. Lunch at DC and JC's house after the ride Sunday October 20 @ 10:00 North Bend Rail-Trail ; ; ; LK (* ½) 27 miles From Depot at Pennsboro. From Rt 50 West, take Rt 74 north into Pennsboro. Stay on it as it zigzags into town and up to the Depot. Flat Rail-Trail with good mountain bike surface. Four tunnels each way to Cairo where there are a restaurant, an ice cream parlor, old time hardware store (see the high wheeler) and a bike shop. Saturday October 26 @ 1:00 Clarksburg to Jane Lew ; ; ; PM (* *) 32 to 40 miles From Riverbend Park in Clarksburg. Mostly flat to gently rolling roads, a couple of possible store stops. Could be an out and back or loop around for more miles. 6:00 pm Club Dinner/ Annual Meeting El Rodeo Restaurant Restaurant is on Milford St (Rt19) between Riverbend & downtown Clarksburg (where the Canteen used to be) Annual business meeting, election of officers Sunday October 27 @ 10:00 Mt. Morris - Pt. Marion, PA Loop ; ; ; Paula & Tim 598-8472 35 miles ( * * * ) From truck stop just east of I-79 (near the Honda/Mazda dealership) at the Mt. Morris, PA exit of I-79. Beautiful ride with a few big hills and a few little ones. A mile of gravel at the end. We suggest a road bike with anything but racing wheels. Late lunch in Mt. Morris at the end of the ride. Bring snacks and water to keep your energy level up. Leisurely pace. |
