September - October 2003       RIDE SCHEDULE

These ratings are somewhat subjective.   Ride leaders' initials follow the name of the ride.

Monday September 1 (Labor Day), 9:00 Stonewall Jackson Jubilee, Gary W
46 miles (* *) From Marshville exit of Rt 50 West. Low traffic route through pretty countryside with one big hill each way. Visit annual arts & crafts festival at Jacksons Mill. There’s food, music, history, etc. Admission charge (seniors ask for discount). Bring a bike lock.

Saturday September 6, 9:00 Halleck Rd/Arthurdale Mark C.
45 miles (* * ˝) From behind the Rio Grande at Sabraton, Ride down the new section of the Mon rail trail (New surface OK for road bikes) to Little Falls and take the roads to Arthurdale. Tour de Arthurdale, visit DQ at Reedsville. Return via Deckers Creek or road to Sabraton.

Sunday September 7, 1:00 Brushy Fork, JW
Up to 30 miles (* *) From Deegan Lake parking lot. Heading east into Bridgeport on Rt 50, turn right at the light past Hardees. When this road (Rt 58) bears right, continue straight on the lake road to the picnic shelter and tennis courts. Easy out and back ride with just a couple of hills each way.

Saturday September 13, 10:00 Youghioghenny Rail Trail, KW
Up to 52 miles (* ˝) From city park in Connellsville, PA Take I-68 to Rt 857 exit, turn North, follow Rt 119 north to Connellsville. Turn right onto Rt 711(Main St) at a traffic light. Go 4or 5 blocks until you see a bike shop on the right. Turn left here and go straight about 3 blocks into the trail parking area. Flat rail trail with good surface for road bikes. Several interesting stops possible. Lunch available at Dairy Land restaurant in West Newton.
Also September 13, 9:00am, 10 Mile Time trial Bill Foster Jane Lew (exit 105 I79) Park along dead end road in front of truck stop. Time trial is out and back Jesse Run Rd. (* ˝) 15 to 20 mile casual ride to follow time trial about 10:00.

Sunday September 14, 1:30 Jarvisville/Long Run Loop, GW
30 miles (* *) From Marshville exit of Rt 50 West. Lots of good riding with very little climbing. A stop for snacks at the country store with the big shade tree in Miletus or the Dairy Queen in Salem.

Saturday September 20, 10:00, Pricketts Fort to Morgantown and back, KW
32 miles (*) From Pricketts Fort, bike north on the new section of the Mon River rail trail to Morgantown, have lunch, possibly take in some of the Mason Dixon Festival (food, arts & crafts, music, etc) at the river front park and ride back to Pricketts Fort on the trail.

Sunday September 21, 8:00 am, Annual Club Century, Paul Moses, Laurel Klein, Bill Foster
100 miles (* * * *) From Salem College parking lot on Main St in Salem across from the BP station. The route may be a little different this year, but will still go through Middlebourne and Sistersville. Mostly rolling with a few hills on very pleasant roads. A couple of choices for lunch, some country stores along the way and a stop for snacks provided by the club. Limited SAG. If totally rained out, the ride may be held Sunday September 29. Contact club officers to verify rain out.

Saturday September 27, 10:00 Helvetia, LK
40 miles (* * *) From WV Game Farm on Rt 20, 9 miles south of Buckhannon Out and back ride on hilly roads with great scenery. Lunch at the Hutte restaurant (Swiss cuisine, no credit cards) in the quaint village of Helvetia. Let the ride leader know that you are going. It is a bit of a drive to the start.

Sunday September 28, 10:00 Pullman/Cox’s Mill, GMcW
(* *) 45 miles Starts at Pizza Inn at Harrisville, (from Rt 50 W take Rt 16 south for 4 miles, restaurant is on the left at the first traffic light) Great Ritchie County scenery, some hills, bring plenty of water and snacks If the century has been rained out, that ride may be held instead on this date. Contact club officers to verify

Saturday October 4, 10:00 Friendsville to Grantsville loop, Al D
40 miles (* * *) From the convenience store at the Friendsville, MD exit off of I-68 east of Morgantown. A hilly loop on rural roads in the mountains. A chance to see the early fall colors. Food either at the Casselman Inn in Grantsville or at the Springs Folk Festival in Springs, PA. See who can count the most Amish buggies. If weather is cool or damp, bring warm clothes and rain gear.

Sunday October 5, 10:00 Over Mt Davis JB
50 miles (* ** *) From Sisters Restaurant in Confluence, PA Optional breakfast at 9:00 . Ride at 10:00. Road ride over the highest spot in Pennsylvania to Meyersdale, PA. There is a fire tower at the top. Very hilly, but there are some fantastic downhills on the return trip. Lunch in Meyersdale. Call ride leader if weather is questionable. Bring enough snacks and plenty of water. High adventure

Saturday October 11, Mt. Morris Loop, Don C
25 miles (* *) From church parking lot in downtown Mt. Morris. Take I-79 north of Morgantown to the first PA exit. Turn left off exit and go to the intersection with Rt. 19. A ride through PA countryside with some hills.

Sunday October 12, 10:00 St George/Stemple Ridge G McW
(* * * *) 55 to 60 miles Starts at Kasson School on Rt 92 near Moatsville , 4 miles north of Nestorville on right Climbs Cheat Mountain-.3 major climbs and several lesser hills Look for the windmills. Bring plenty of food and water, there is nothing out there but scenery. A 35-mile version is possible also

Saturday October 18, 11:00 Johnstown/Hodgesville Loop DO
37 miles (* * *) From Lost Creek between bank and community center. A couple of fairly good climbs, but nice downhills too. Includes Jane Lew, Berlin, and a lightly traveled section of Rt 20. A store stop is possible

Sunday October 19, 1:00 Anmore/Brushy Fork KP
32 miles (* *) from Anmore Post Office. From I79 take exit 117 go west on 58 to T then left for 100 feet to post office. Out and back route through pretty countryside with interesting wetlands at the far end

Saturday October 25, 1:00 Lost Creek /Wattersmith LK
33 miles(* *) From Riverbend Park, Clarksburg Familiar road. Flat to gently rolling out to Lost Creek, with a hill on the road to Wattersmith State Park. Stop for snacks at the Lost Creek BP
6:00 Annual Club Dinner Meeting La Rancherita Restaurant, 114 Milford Street (Rt 19 South) Clarksburg

Sunday October 26, 1:30 Jarvisville Loop GW
23 miles (* *) From Marshville exit of Rt 50 West. One of our favorite rides. A stop for snacks at the country store in Miletus before tackling the hill on Patterson Fork. Return through Salem
