Contact listed ride leader for details Difficulty ratings: (*) easy (**) moderate (***) difficult (****) extreme Rides are intended to be enjoyed: they are not a race or a survival contest. In case of snow or heavy rain, cancellation is likely. If in doubt, contact the ride leader. Carpool to the start whenever possible. Wear your helmet. Sunday July 1 Wednesday 4th of July (*1/2) 32 miles Park behind the Sabraton Wendy's (Take the Sabraton exit of I-68 and head toward Morgantown: Wendy's is about a mile down the road on your left)) Trail surface is mostly good for road bikes but there may be some rough spots, It climbs steadily uphill. The return ride is all downhill. Lunch afterward Saturday July 7 (**)18 to 34 miles from Valley Hills shopping center parking lot-next to Bridgeport Hardee's on Rt 50 Out and back ride with two or three hills each way. A favorite spring ride Sunday July 8 (***) 40 miles from Weston Wal-Mart parking lot (from I-79 take exit 99 onto Rt 33 east. The Wal-Mart will be on your left just after the Sheetz) Some familiar roads along the lake, but also some little known roads will make for a longer, more interesting ride than our usual route. More hills, too. Bring plenty of water and snacks Saturday July 14 (**) 35 to 38 miles from ball field on Rt 18 just off Rt 50 west at West Union Ride goes to Pennsboro up Rt 74 to Rt 18 and back to West Union. Some hills Sunday July 15 (*1/2) 32 miles From Prickett's Fort State Park. From I79 Take exit 137 (same exit as Gabriel's) and follow signs to the park. Flat rail trail ride along the river to Uffington and back Saturday July 21 (**) 20 to 25 miles Park by Barrackville covered bridge (from downtown Fairmont, take 250 North, turn right at sign for Barrackville, continue 1 or 2 miles to covered bridge) A hilly ride to the little community of Plum Run. then to Mannington for a stop at the B&B Bakery (we hope it is open) Sunday July 22 (****) 45 miles From Larry's house between Bruceton Mills and White House, PA - Rich Farms (call or e-mail for directions losborn2@wvu.edu ) The ride includes Wymps Gap, Rt 857, Mud Pike AND Skyline Drive to Rt 40 and return. A couple of long steep hills and some shorter steeper ones. Only one store, no other facilities along the route, so plan accordingly. Parking is limited at the starting point, so carpool if possible Saturday July 28 (*1/2) 20 to 25 miles from Jane Lew exit 105 off I-79. Park on dead end side road in front of the truck stop just east of I-79) A pleasant ride through pretty scenery. Route will depend on the weather and how far folks want to go. Beginners welcome, relaxed pace Sunday July 29 (**) 44 miles from Marshville exit Rt 50 W An out and back ride via Jarvisville Road over the hill at Big Isaac and on out through Kincheloe. Only a couple of climbs, some nice long valleys. Snacks or lunch available at the store at Jackson's Mill. Saturday August 4 (**) 30 miles from Parsons trail head (from downtown Parsons take Rt 219 east, cross bridge at the edge of town and the trail head is on the right) Newly surfaced smooth trail from Parsons to Hendricks, but trail is still rough as it climbs on up through the Blackwater Canyon to Thomas, so 1½ inch or larger tires are still needed. Great scenery. Lunch at Purple Fiddle in Thomas. The return is pretty much downhill Sunday August 5 Saturday August 11 (*1/2) 32 miles from Frostburg, Maryland train station. Ride the new section of trail from Frostburg to Meyersdale for lunch. The route includes the famous Big Savage tunnel. Firm new Rail-Trail is OK for road bikes Sunday August 12 44 miles (**) From trail head on Rt 219 just north of old Rt 33 in Elkins. This rail trail has 4 miles of asphalt at each end, good surface in between. Gradual climb over the hill each way. Wonderful scenery. Lunch at a restaurant in Parsons. Well worth the drive to Elkins Saturday August 18 (***) 65-70 miles from West Union ball field, Rt. 18 at US 50. Rt. 18 south and back roads to Rt 33. return on Rt 47 to Rt 18. Some hills, one store stop at mid point Sunday August 19 (****) 100 miles from the Mon County Courthouse in Morgantown at 8 am or catch the group at the Kirby, PA exit of I-79 at 9:30 for the(***) 60+ mile ride on through Waynesburg to the town of Prosperity where you can get a sandwich at the store. Nice roads, lots of good riding Saturday August 25 (**) 32 to 42 miles from Veterans Memorial (Riverbend) Park in Clarksburg off US 19 south. Mostly flat to gently rolling roads. An optional loop to Lightburn and Kincheloe adds a hill and more scenery. Check out the new rail trail from Lost Creek halfway up to Clarksburg. An easy out and back ride just to Lost Creek is possible (22 miles round trip). The BP at Lost Creek has all the amenities and there is another store in Jane Lew. Sunday August 26 (*1/2) about 32 miles From the square in front of Sisters Restaurant in downtown Confluence ,PA (Take the Bruceton Mills exit of I-68 go north and stay on this road all the way to Confluence. It is 26 in WV and 281 in PA) Smooth rail trail OK for road bikes. There is some grade on the way to Rockwood, where there is a store, maybe a restaurant. This is a very pretty part of the Great Allegheny Passage. Call if you would like to carpool. COMING ATTRACTIONS - PLAN AHEAD:
